The festival of colors & love, rightly named HOLI falls in the month of March, the day after full moon every year. On the eve of Holi, a Holika bonfire is lit to remind us of the victory of good over evil. History tells us that Lord Vishnu appeared as half-man, half-lion and killed Hiranyakashyap at dusk. Lord Vishnu saved his follower Prahlada from pyre while Prahlada’s evil aunt Holika burned.

In the region of Mathura & Vrindavan, where the Hindu deity Lord Krishna grew up, the festival of love is celebrated until rangpanchmi in remembrance of the holy love of Radha for Krishna. The festival is celebrated with flowers, colors, Gulal and spread of sweets among all the people of the region.

History of Holi (होली का इतिहास)

होली पर्व का इतिहास काफ़ी पुराना है। भारतवर्ष में ये त्योहार हज़ारों वर्ष पहले से मनाया जाता है। हर त्योहार और पर्व की ही तरह होली के मनाए जाने के पीछे भी एक कहानी है। हिन्दू धर्म की मान्यता के अनुसार इसी दिन भगवान श्री विष्णु ने नरसिम्हा का अवतार लेकर हिरण्यकश्यप का वध किया था। इसके साथ ही भक्त प्रह्लाद को अग्नि में जलने से बचाया था, जिसे होलिका दहन के रूप में मनाया जाता है। होलिका दहन के अगले दिन ही रंग के इस पर्व को मनाया जाता है। इस धार्मिक कारण के साथ ही होली मनाने का एक वैज्ञानिक कारण है। इसके अनुसार होली वास्तव में किसानों द्वारा फ़सल की कटाई के बाद खुशी मनाने का त्योहार है। भारतवर्ष में मार्च के महीनें में गेहूँ के फसल की कटाई होती है। चूँकि गेहूँ भारत का एक मुख्य फसल है, खासतौर से उत्तर भारत के मुख्य अनाज़ के रूप में जाना जाता है। इस फ़सल की कटाई के बाद किसानों को अनाज़ के रूप में अमूल्य संपत्ति का तोहफ़ा मिलता है। अतः किसान फाल्गुन मास की पूर्णिमा के दिन एक दूसरे के साथ मिलकर रंगों के माध्यम से अपनी ख़ुशी का इज़हार करते हैं। ये प्रथा हज़ारो साल पहले किसानों द्वारा शुरू की गई थी जो कि आज भी ज़ारी है। इस समय लघभग पूरे भारत में ख़ासतौर पर उत्तर भारत में होली का पर्व बड़े उत्साह के साथ मनाया जाता है।

होली की विसंगति

होली ख़ुशी का पर्व है, इसे ख़ुशी-ख़ुशी सबके साथ मिलकर मनाया जाना चाहिए। लेकिन कई बार लोग इस पर्व पर कुछ ऐसे कार्य भी करने लग जाते हैं कि इस पर्व के रंग में भंग पड़ जाता है। ये रंगों का त्योहार है, इसे सिर्फ़ एक दूसरे से गले मिलकर और रंगों के साथा मनाया जाना चाहिए। लेकिन बहुत से लोग रंगों के बजाज इस दिन शराब और जुएँ के साथ इसे मनाते हैं। जो कि वाक़ई में बेहद ग़लत बात है। शराब के नशे में लोग एक दूसरे से लड़ाई-झगड़े भी करने लग जाते हैं जो कि इस त्योहार के मजें को ख़राब कर देता है। हम सभी को ऐसा कदापि नहीं करना चाहिए।

इसके अलावा कई बार ऐसा भी होता है कि लोग एक दूसरे को रंग लगाने के बजाय उन पर गोबर तथा कीचड़ फेंकने के साथ ही कई तरह के घातक रसायन वाले रंग भी फेंकने लग जाते हैं। ऐसा करने से किसी भी व्यक्ति की त्वचा पर गम्भीर दुष्प्रभाव हो सकता है। इसके साथ ही जानवरों के ऊपर भी इस तरह के घातक रंगों का प्रयोग ना करें। इस रंग के पर्व पर कहीं ऐसा ना हो कि मूक और निर्दोष जानवरों को आपकी वज़ह से कोई परेशानी उठानी पड़े। आप होली खेलने के लिए एकदम प्राकृतिक रंगों का इस्तेमाल करें। जानवरों के ऊपर भी अगर रंग डालें तो प्राकृतिक रंग ही डालें। इस दिन किसी भी तरह का नशा और बुरी आदतों की शुरुआत ना करें।

सभी के गीले शिकवें भुलाकर उन्हें गले से लगाकर होली की शुभकामनाएं दें।

◆ होली मनाने का उद्देश्य
